ShadowMaps is an early stage start-up based in beautiful Santa Barbara, CA. The company is developing an exciting new cloud services business related to the localization of mobile devices. Their approach combines machine learning algorithms with cutting edge graphical database technology to create a real-time solution to the mobile geo-location problem on city streets. SNNLive spoke with Jason Isaacs, Cofounder and CEO of Shadow Maps at First Look LA 2014 presented by LAVA in Los Angeles, CA.
“We’re a location improvement service for mobile and we solve the shadowing problem in cities” begins Mr. Isaacs. He continues, “In cities, large buildings block GPS signals creating shadowed regions and these regions cause, if your phone is located in one of these regions, could cause GPS errors of over 100 feet.”
Mr. Isaacs explains, “We make use of knowledge of where the buildings are, where the satellites are in the sky and which signals are shadowed or not to improve this GPS localization by a factor of 10.” He adds, “The most potential benefit is the area location-based advertising and so we can enable advertisers to deliver ads to you at the right place at the right time.” For more information, check out their website at www.shadowmaps.com
