In 1998, Price Waterhouse and Coopers & Lybrand merged to create PricewaterhouseCoopers. In this Wall Street View, our host spoke with Mike Quindazzi from PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP at the PortTech LA Expo 2014 in San Pedro, CA.
Mr. Quindazzi begins by discussing what he spoke about during the conference, “Today we were discussing five megatrends. These are macroeconomic forces that are impacting the world, better actually changing the way we live, it’s changing business, it’s changing trade, it’s changing society.” He continues by describing the first of these megatrends that he covered, “The first one is really around demographic shifts and that’s the way that you’re changing, I’m changing, people are changing around the world and there’s really five things there – one is people are getting older, two we’re having less children, and three is there’s more of us, the fourth one’s around diversity, people are getting more diverse and the fifth one is that women are getting more powerful.”
He then describes what the second megatrend is, “The second megatrend is about the shift in economic forces and we’re experiencing now for the first time in over thousands of years, economic power shifting from the West back to the East. We like to look at this as the G-7 versus the E-7, that’s your developed countries versus your emerging countries and what we’re finding is over the last twenty years they’ve caught up significantly.”
Mr. Quindazzi gives advice towards small US emerging growth companies, “I think you got to look at what the opportunities are out there for the company. I think there’s two ways to look at the market - you know one way is to look at the market, what’s going on in the market, where are the opportunities. The other way is to kind of take an inventory of the company and what the company’s capabilities are and really figure out how to position those capabilities in order to get the highest return for that company.” For more information, check out their website at www.pwc.com.
