OurCrowd is an equity-based crowdfunding platform, built exclusively for a select group of accredited investors to provide venture capital funding for Israeli (and later global) venture capital start-ups. Membership in the community is vetted and offered only to people who meet the stringent accreditation criteria. Accredited investors who are accepted into the community can make minimum investments of $10,000 per deal. The initial focus of OurCrowd will be the dynamic early stage funding market in Israel and only companies that have passed a rigorous due diligence process will be added to the platform. All term sheets will be pre-negotiated and OurCrowd’s management company and affiliated mentor network will lead the investment with their own money. OurCrowd has become the first Israel focused, equity-based investment platform to launch and one of the world’s leading accredited investor only platforms. In this Wall Street View, our host spoke with Audrey Jacobs from OurCrowd at The Israel Conference 2014 in Los Angeles, CA.
Ms. Jacobs begins with an overview of OurCrowd, “OurCrowd is a venture capital, equity crowdfunding hybrid and basically our vision is to democratize finance and allow individual investors globally to have access to invest in early-stage tech companies alongside us as a VC and other major VCs and corporate players to have access to an asset class they haven’t had before.” OurCrowd looks for the best start-ups globally and gives the opportunity to invest alongside them and other major VCs or investing partners.
Ms. Jacobs was a speaker at the conference and goes over what she discussed, “Today I spoke about the opportunity to – for investors to have access to invest in Israeli tech startups through our platform. Again it’s The Israel Conference, people are really excited about technology coming out at Israel but they don’t have access to find the companies, to have the diligenced and research and so we’re providing that access.”
She explains the criteria OurCrowd looks for in companies, “We are looking for companies, again not an idea on a PowerPoint presentation. Our investors are savvy, they may not be big tech experts but they’re looking for companies that have real traction, companies that have real customers either have strategic partners, they already have revenue, we’re looking for teams that are serial entrepreneurs that have built companies and taken them public or sold them before. We’re looking for smart money at the table besides us, so we’re looking for great opportunities that are a little bit further along what’s called Series A rounds...it's about access; its about getting access to opportunities that investors have just not had before.” For more information, check out their website: www.OurCrowd.com
