SolisTek Inc. is a private, Los Angeles based company that is revolutionizing the technology behind horticultural lighting. With the need for improvement in lighting technology for the hydroponic industry, the company saw an opportunity to introduce software based technologies such as Ignition Control, Sense Smart, and the Matrix LCD ballast. All of which, have since changed the entire industry standards of manufacturing digital ballasts. With the company’s inside and out understanding of the horticulture industry and extensive knowledge and network in sourcing and manufacturing, it was a match made in heaven to bring the latest and greatest improvements on products that have stayed the same for years. SNNLive spoke with Alan Lien from SolisTek Inc. at the LD Micro "Main Event" 2014 in Bel Air, CA.
Mr. Lien begins with an overview of the company, “Well, we’re a lighting company. We specialize in high-wattage units, such as the 1,000 watt ballasts, 600 watt ballasts and 400 watt ballasts. It’s the same power supply you would be using in residential and street lighting except, you know we basic cater to the indoor gardeners.”
He then explains the business model, “We’re strictly a[n] equipment supplier, so we purchase overseas however we do have a team in China that you know, does all the quality control for us. We control everything from component sourcing in our products all the way up to the logistics and importing so we only have finished products in the US and basically we just, you know just import and ship out from our facilities.” He adds, “We do not install, we don’t manufacture...we come up with designs and ideas and we contract factories overseas and we bring them in here for sale.”
He explains one of the features in SolisTek’s lightning, “We’re known for our ignition control feature - just like in our household lighting, when you turn on the switch all the lights, no matter how many, they turn on all at the same time, but we implemented a software-based technology where we can program it, when you turn on the light no matter if it’s 2, 5, 10, 1000 of them, only one will turn at a single time. So this will help with the, basically the load that it puts on the circuit breakers without tripping your breakers, especially when you’re dealing with 1,000 watt units."
