Xplore Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ: XPLR), maker of the most rugged tablets on Earth, has been in the business of developing, integrating, and marketing industrial grade rugged tablets for our customers in the Energy, Utilities, Manufacturing and Distribution, Public Safety, Field Services, Transportation, and Military sectors for over 15 years. Xplore Tablets use the most powerful and modern processors and components and are tested more vigorously for shock, thermal, vibration, impact, ingress and emissions than any other PC in the industry. SNNLive spoke with Philip Sassower, Chairman and CEO of Xplore Technologies Corp. at the LD Micro "Main Event" 2014 in Bel Air, CA.
Mr. Sassower begins with an overview of the company, “Xplore Technologies makes the most rugged computer on the market and the form factor is a tablet because a tablet, unlike a PC or a laptop does not have a hinge, it doesn’t have a keyboard, it doesn’t have the weak points that can fail. So if you make a tablet out of industrial grade materials, it can have tremendous power and functionality and be indestructible and that’s what we make.”
“All of our products are made for us pursuant to our patents and designs in Taiwan, our principal manufacturer is a tier one manufacturer called Wistron. They have 40,000 employees, they do $25 billion in business, and they make a million Xboxes a month for Microsoft and they make our computers, they make all the Dell laptops.”
He discusses the markets that rugged tablets address, “The single biggest market for all rugged devices happens to be the US Military, but in general enterprises, our biggest markets besides the military are telecommunications companies, utilities, oil & gas, the logistics business, warehousing, wherever you need access to a computer but it’s in a difficult environment and you can’t afford the downtime if it will drop, if it breaks.”
He concludes by discussing 2015, “For the past year we spent about 6-7 million dollars in taking our technology and our patents from our ultra-rugged Wildcat IX104 device and seen the trend and the adoption by the public. You know today, 50% of all the computers being sold are tablets, so we have taken our patents and our know-how and have come up with lighter weight, but fully rugged solutions and one of them is our Ranger X which is an Android device and one is our Bobcat device which is a Windows device and we are now selling those devices like hotcakes to utilities, to telcos, to the military and you can expect a dramatic, not an increase, but a dramatic revenue increase from us starting with the fourth calendar quarter which is our third fiscal quarter.” For more information, check out their website: www.XploreTech.com
