“Ablitech is a company that does gene silencing delivery. So basically, we protect silencing RNA and get it inside cancer cells to turn them off”, Dr. Malone begins. ”We intend to be the game-changer. For 2 decades people have been trying to figure out how to deliver this silver bullet of silencing RNA. Nobody has been able to come up with a good delivery platform. We think we have it”, he continues. Dr. Malone goes on to describe how their technology works: ”the key is that the silencing RNA, if it gets inside a cancer cell, it will tell it to turn off. If it gets inside a healthy cell, it doesn’t do anything. So its Chemotherapy with no harmful side effects. The problem is, getting the silencing RNA past the body’s natural defense system has been a really difficult thing. What we basically do is shield it so that body’s liver, white blood cells and enzymes don’t know that it’s there. We get it your mouth and straight into the cancer cell.”

“Being in Maryland is what it’s all about. We have great partners at the University of Maryland, great partners in Maryland, and being right down the street from Government funding sources and their expertise is a big deal”, Dr. Malone concludes when discussing the advantages of working in Maryland.
