Tasman Metals Ltd. (TAS:NYSE Amex)(TSM.V:TSX-V) is a Canadian mineral exploration
and development company focused on Rare Earth Elements (REE’s) in the European region. SNNLive spoke with Mark Saxon, CEO of Tasman Metals Ltd. at the Vancouver Resource Investment Conference 2012. In this interview, Mr. Saxon discusses the company’s flagship project: Norra Karr Project located in Southern Sweden.
He begins by discussing Tasman, “we are only two years old, we are still building momentum but we’ve had a great start. We are very fortunate, our very first project in the company we’ve managed to make a major discovery.” The Norra Karr project, as Mr. Saxon states, is a “heavy project”, where, “its the most heavy rare earth enriched project in the world. Its very rich in dysprosium, if we produce 6,000 tons per year of rare earths, we’ll be producing 350 tons per year of dysprosium.” The project is also, “the only project in mainland Europe…we have an exceptional niche to work particularly with the German Auto Industry, who are crying out for more dysprosium, and all kinds of rare earth metals.”
Mr. Saxon also goes in depth about Sweden, “anyone that has been to Sweden know how simple it is to operate, and we have a railway line that is 10 km away, we have a tool drive access on site, we work all year round, we have no problems with snow, no problems with permafrost. The area we work in in Southern Sweden has no indigenous communities so we have no landholder issues, everything is free hold land.”
Furthermore, “the Norra Karr Project is that it is unusually low in Uranium and Thorium…we have no radioactivity so that means our permitting process will be much easier”, as Mr. Saxon explains, where the company has also been, “getting great support from the community as well.” For more information about Tasman Metals Ltd., check out their website, and you can follow them on Twitter @TasmanMetals.
